how fast is seven?

fast enough.  part of the reason that we are “letting it happen” and not “making it happen” is that we understand the power and exponential acceleration of web 3.0.  when properly motivated, communities of people join together in impressive numbers and are lightning quick in accomplishing their goals.

Here is a snapshot of our traffic…

positive changes towards a sustainable future.

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

At seven planet we believe that mindful commerce is the resurgence of a movement from our ancestors. Very much like the need for general stores in all cities across the country in the early part of the 20th century, mindful commerce is now a key element in the sustainability movement. Without it, we as a collective race will continue to consume precious resources at a level that will outpace our ability to find alternate solutions in the future.

As a company we promote the idea of finding ways in which to reuse existing products or materials you may have and to recycle whatever products you no longer need or use. Should you need a product we hope you select seven planet as a potential supplier as we are proponents of mindful commerce.

Alchemy Goods

Their mission is simple: “Turning useless into useful.”

Alchemy is the medieval science of turning lead into gold. More generally, it means magically turning something of lesser value into something of greater value. For them, the value isn’t economical so much as ecological. They look for materials that are normally discarded that might have value with a little bit of imagination and some hard work.

seven life

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

At seven planet we believe that living in a more earth friendly manner is as easy as 1…2…7. Therefore, we have compiled feedback from our patrons, advisors and team on how to live a seven life. This simply means that anything that is good for the planet, our environment and resources is “seven”. So, the seven life is simply a way of living where we collectively work to further improve our approach to how we interact with our planet.

It’s about progressing towards a more sustainable life for you, your family and your community, one step at a time to help collectively save the planet.

Like anything in life change takes time and continual revisions to the way each of us approaches existing patterns. The changes we all need to make to save the planet are no different and they will take time.

However, with viable feedback and with examples of how people are living the seven life we hope to simplify the process of changing for us all. From little steps to big ones, we have a path to personally and professionally being more seven.

we choose our suppliers very carefully.

seven planet promotes, markets and sells product from the best early stage green and sustainable companies (mindful suppliers) within each of seven industry silos (e.g. apparel, food).

To be a mindful supplier a company must be early stage and offer products that are substantially more mindful than any competing product.”

Mindful suppliers are the pioneering leaders in their respective industries who practice the highest level of mindful commerce. If global commerce was transacted with only companies like these, we would collectively save the planet, and that of course is the goal.  To be a mindful supplier, a company must initially meet at least 4 of the 7 following criteria:

  1. suppliers are environmental supporters as a company
  2. suppliers utilize organic materials in their products
  3. suppliers source local materials for their products
  4. suppliers source renewable materials for their products
  5. suppliers recycle and reuse materials at facilities
  6. suppliers utilize renewable energy in their facilities
  7. suppliers offset their carbon footprint for shipping

Collectively the suppliers and seven planet work to provide mindful commerce solutions for the market.  If you have interest in being a mindful supplier, please fill out our supplier interest form.

Sjaak’s Chocolates

Friday, November 7th, 2008

The Sjaak’s Story began on the Southern beaches of Spain. This is where Jacques and Pam met and fell in love. They soon came back and settled in Eureka, California where Pam had grown up. They began a chocolate business that grew into a household name in their community. After years of building a thriving business, they realized that they needed to shift their attention to organic products. Being long time vegetarians and health conscious consumers themselves, they felt they needed their personal beliefs reflected in their business, thus the beginning of Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates.

Better World Club

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Todd Silberman and Mitch Rofsky met forty years ago in Ohio. Little did they know that someday they would create Better World Services, Inc. The Better World Club founders worked their way through law school in the 70′s, Todd as a travel agent, Mitch with winnings from game shows like the Joker’s Wild. While test marketing an insurance program in Massachusetts, Mitch was approached by environmentalists about issues like Clean Air and Mass Transit. Mitch thought there was an opportunity here and Todd agreed. But first there was work to do: A committed staff has grown Better World Club. Their philosophy encompasses every aspect of travel, from flying around the world to renting a cottage in Ireland, to riding a bike to work.

green tip #1: start carrying a bag

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

This a very simple and effective way in which to turn a common trip to the grocer into a sustainable activity.  Simply keep one to three canvas or cloth bags in the trunk of your car or bike trailer.  When you shop have your groceries or products placed in your cloth bag vs. a plastic or paper bag.  In the United States, 40 billion grocery bags are used each year, 30 billion plastic and 10 billion paper bags.  Currently only less than 1% of Americans bring cloth bags to the grocer.  If everyone did we would save 14 million trees and 3600 million barrels of oil a year.
