Yesterday, one of our favorite mindful suppliers, 3greenmoms, was featured in the Gazette, a Maryland publication. The story does a great job detailing why these successful entrepreneurs started their environmentally responsible business.
Big thanks to Willamette Week’s Retail Therapist for the positive write-up about our products and upcoming Portland store opening on September 12th. We’re happy to see the article digging into our mindful supplier list and finding goodies from Naturally Knotty, Earthlab Cosmetics, and Bravo Farms.
Our founder was traveling through Spain and with a small solar charger. Not only did the charger not work very well, it was easy to forget to take it out of the bag to set it up. To work well, a solar charger would need to have much more solar power make charging efficient and a way to make charging devices effortless. We made several prototypes around this idea before settling on something very similar to the current version of the bags.
The talented crew at eROI built seven planet a mighty fine website which is in a constant state of flux as we continue to add new mindful suppliers to the mix. Upon initial review of the site (back when I first joined the company) I was particularly drawn the texture being used as the background image – one thought to myself: what is the story behind Burlap anyway? Where does it come from? Read more about Burlap here.
Through a random connection or two I recently road by the website BikePortland.org and I thought to myself: yes, yes, yes!!! I always get excited when I find folks who take the utmost pride in their work/cause – I don’t necessarily care what you’re into – but as long as you take pride in your work – then hats off to you!
Upon visiting this bike-minded site I was excited to see all of the resources available regarding Portland bike culture: job listings, stolen bikes, bike builders, bike shops, groups to join, events, and so much more. If you are a biker in Portland or elsewhere I highly encourage you to dig deep at BikePortland.org – biking info for days.
Disclaimer: I am not a biker… I am a clumsy walker… but am impressed nonetheless!
Hello everyone – how would you fill in the blank?
Here at seven planet our long standing mantra has been “Mindful Commerce” – encouraging folks to think about what they’re doing before they do it. To think about consumerism and consumption. To think about where things came from and where they’re going. To make little changes in routine. To stay positive. To learn and teach. To critically think. To observe. To think about living a healthier lifestyle and to think about others along the way. Simply, we are encouraging all to be more mindful of what you/we/I are doing.
See image below. I’ve been collecting garbage on my walks – to illustrate how much waste exists in our world. Now, I might fill in the blank following Mindful with “disposal” or “reuse” or “reduction” or “transportation” or “people” or “manufacturing” or “communities” or… the list goes on.
How would you fill in the blank?
What does being Mindful mean to you?
Please leave us comments below – cheers!
Bravo Farms began in 1979 as a small dairy farm in Visalia, California. Owned by Bill Boersma, he ran the dairy several years before deciding to evolve into a farmstead cheesemaker. This was not an easy task, being the first farmstead cheesemaker in the San Joaquin Valley was a challenging endeavor. Yet over time, he developed a wonderful recipe for a farmhouse cheddar, which is known as one of the best in the world. Recently Bill partnered with a young artisan cheesemaker, Jonathan Van Ryn, who studied cheesemaking at California Polytechnic University. Jonathan was building a small cheese factory to make his own varieties of cheese, but after meeting with the Boersma’s, they came up with a plan to form a partnership in Bravo Farms. They could now make enough cheese to meet the demand. Bravo Farms now makes several varieties of cheese and continues to produce some of the best cheese worldwide.
Our ingredients are all natural. All but the vitamin E are organic. Most of our ingredients are local.
In choosing our ingredient partners, we seek companies with an artisan approach, each striving to create the purest products possible. We believe that you and your customers appreciate unique flavors and have an adventurous and educated palate.
Our flour is unbleached and made from a premium blend of organic hard red wheat. Our sugar is organic pure cane sugar. We proudly use Straus Family Creamery’s European Style organic unsalted sweet cream butter. Straus is a family run farm located in the town of Marshall, CA. Their butter has over 85% butterfat and is still made in a 1950′s small batch butter churn. Chef Thomas Keller of the French Laundry uses it.
Embrace Sweets began in 2004 with only a thought, a passion for baking and several generations of proven recipes. My daughter and I have worked hard to bring the dreams of my mother and grandmother to light and those dreams are flourishing.
Fed up with my current job and unfilled I searched for my true passion and purpose in life, little did I know that it was with me all the while. After making an apple cobbler for Brandi’s 21st birthday I suddenly found myself with orders from friends and neighbors to make them sweets. I soon after, enrolled in the California School of Culinary Arts – Le Cordon Bleu program; and acquired more experience working with world renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck’s catering division. I had truly found my calling.
When Brandi and I opened Embrace Sweet, we found ourselves in the middle of the Adkins craze, we couldn’t give away a cookie let alone a brownie. However, we stayed the course determined to make this work. With that determination, we won numerous awards for our brownies.
