Thank you to all who visited seven planet Portland for our grand opening last weekend.  The turnout was beyond our expectations and we were very encouraged with your overwhelming support for our concept of mindful commerce.  With live musical performances and many of our mindful suppliers in attendance to talk about their products, the event was an excellent showcase of what’s to come with seven planet.

Stay tuned for a large number of events planned at seven planet Portland, including First Thursday celebrations, local business gatherings and green workshops.  seven planet is more than a store, it’s a way of life.

Evolve

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

ShowerStart™   wanted a way to save time, water and energy without having to make sacrifices or behavior changes. You see, we figured that many people were probably a lot like us in their morning routine – really busy running around to get out of the door on time. So to save a little time we typically turn on the shower and sneak away to do something else while waiting for the water to warm-up.

ShowerStart™ technology changes the equation because it watches the shower’s temperature and “triggers a trickle” as soon as the shower is warm enough to jump in.  This prevents your hot water from inadvertently running down the drain before you can hop in the shower. Not only have you eliminated the water and energy waste, but the sound of the trickle tells you that your shower’s ready.  The hot water for your shower is now warm and waiting instead of warm and wasted.

Golden Path Alchemy

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

The study of Nature, Holistic Healing, Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine inspired the creation of Golden Path Alchemy. Golden Path is representative of the Tao, or universal way. Alchemy represents transformation, or the process of “finding the precious gold within yourself by transforming the lead that weights you down” (Jeffery Yuen). The five stages of alchemical transformation can be observed as we begin our journey of spiritual development. These phases of cultivation are reflected in Golden Path Alchemy’s five skin care lines.

The first stage, Awaken, is rising and entering the sacred place to begin the journey. The second stage, Purify, is cleansing, detoxification and releasing elements that no longer provide benefit. The third stage, Refine, is cultivation, meditation, growth and enhancement. The fourth stage, Renew, is rebirth, where new life is expressed and manifested.  The fifth stage, Illumination, is enlightenment and spiritual ascension allowing for greater union with the Tao.  The process of spiritual development is cyclical and ongoing. Each of Golden Path Alchemy’s skin care line, Awaken, Purify, Refine, Renew and Illuminate, is designed to support the holistic enlightenment of skin, body and spirit.

seven planet Opens New Portland Store

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Portland, OR – September 9, 2009 – seven planet, the pioneer of mindful commerce and a leader in sustainable goods, announced today that their second green general store will open this Saturday, September 12, at 412 NW Couch in Portland’s historic Old Town neighborhood.

The store will celebrate by hosting a party open to the public from 4pm to 10pm in conjunction with the Old Town Block Party, a large benefit event organized by area businesses.

Most of the necessity-based products found on sevenplanet.com will be available in the store from soap and clothing to furniture and electric-powered vehicles, all from industry-leading suppliers such as Naturally Knotty, db clay and 3greenmoms.

“Despite today’s economy, our customers have been asking for more physical locations where they can have further access to our products as a complement to our established online presence,” said John Friess, one of seven Co-founders of seven planet. “We’re excited for the opportunity to be a part of this neighborhood’s transformation and be among the ranks of the other progressive retailers that have taken root here.”

seven planet provides sustainable purchasing options from seven areas of commerce – apparel, energy, food, health, household, shelter, and travel. Their wide-range of quality, affordable goods are designed not to encourage additional spending, but rather to provide more mindful substitutes for everyday living. The first seven planet green general store opened in Priest River, Idaho last year.

Our skilled papermakers make the products by hand and earn a living wage. When people choose Botanical PaperWorks cards to commemorate a special occasion, they spread the gift of a garden to friends and family – greening our environment, providing habitats for butterflies and planting seeds of beauty.

Little Pots & Pans Co.

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Executive Chef and Owner Kris Pennella transplanted herself from New York City in 2005 with the goal of creating a company that provides customers with access to flavorful, all natural gourmet grab & go meal options.  One of the main draws to Portland for Kris was the enticement of the local farmer’s markets. Besides providing opportunities to market Little Pots & Pans Co. products to our loyal customers, the farmer’s markets created the direct-from-the-farm connection for many of the  ingredients.

Missionary Chocolates

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

A chocolate-loving vegan mother and a passion for natural medicine culminated into the creation of Missionary Chocolates LLC. While in her last year as a naturopathic medical student, Melissa made some non-dairy truffles for her mom Donelle as a Christmas present, and they were so fantastic that a family company and mission was born! Wanting to treat chronic diseases like cancer is what fueled Melissa in her medical career, and the creation of a holistic healing center in downtown Portland became her desire. “Funding Health by Chocolate” has become our company’s goal, to operate a thriving enterprise that exists to provide access to the naturopathic medical services….and to do it deliciously!
