Seven Planet Song

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Seven Planet has grown so much since we opened our doors in Portland.  I was browsing the product assortment online today and can’t believe how many new products we’ve added since we started. I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on our humble beginnings and share the seven planet song to so we can all reflect on the idea of Mindful Commerce and strive towards a Seven Planet.

EverClear Drain for Tubs

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Dynamic Drain Solutions is the maker of the EverClear Drain for tubs, our lead in product for a line of devices meant to prevent the formation of hair clogs in bathroom plumbing, thereby eliminating the need for chemical drain cleaners and their associated safety and environmental costs.  Our product line was developed as a result of first hand knowledge of the severity of injuries caused by chemical drain cleaners:  One of the company principals, and co-developer of the device, was an ER physician that had seen a child injured by chemical drain cleaners.  In addition to our environmental and safety goals, we are focused on creating Oregon jobs: 65% of the parts are made in, and 100% of the assembly and packaging is done in Oregon.

Seven Planet Brand Products

Friday, April 9th, 2010

seven planet is building the brand to save the planet. To help get there the company is partnering with a finite set of what we call mindful suppliers.  These are companies that build and create products that are working to be as green and sustainable as they can be and that also support the mission of mindful commerce.

Mindful commerce is a way of thinking and consuming.  It is the belief that one should only consume when they are in need of something and if they are in need of a product they will work to purchase the most mindful product available to them.

NedWater

Friday, April 9th, 2010

NedWater Liquid Change is the world’s first philanthropic drinking water brand. Arguably the world water crisis is greater than any social need. At NedWater, we believe Commodities Spur Revolution (CSR). We channel people’s thirst for bottled water into social change. Those changes include no plastic, 100 percent transparency and sustainable revenues generated for Non profit organizations.

Like you, we are a group of people who are passionate about making the world a better place. We think the best way to do that is to provide a powerfully healthy, natural beverage in a cool container that is 100% reusable and use our income to drive liquid change towards a better world. Like you, we are seriously pro-environment, pro-humanity and pro-community. Like you, we support organizations producing real change for a better planet. So, we created NedWater Liquid Change, a product that improves your health while improving your world.

Making the world better takes more than helping humanity become earth conscious. That’s why we focus on supporting small organizations locally and around the planet that are up to big things in the world-changing movement. But the great thing about NedWater Liquid Change and the betterworld efforts we support is: you get to help us identify and then determine which organizations get our support. You identify the organizations we support, you get the credit, your organizations get the benefit. Essentially, your water service is a mini-Corporate Social Responsibility Program tailored to your company and your employee’s preferences.

I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite suppliers here on SevenPlanet.com – Way Basics.  Way Basics manufacturers a product called zBoard, which they use as the building block for their super fresh funiture and home storage/decor line. Way Basics modern storage and furniture solutions breathe a fresh perspective on furniture – super easy to assemble and rich in creative possibilities, it’s also both recycled and recyclable. zBoards are made of 99% post-consumer waste paper and are 100% recyclable. Intrigued yet? I know I was. Of course, the first question that came to my mind was “how strong can these zBoards really be if they are made of recycled paper.”  The simple answer: Strong enough to build bookshelves, tables and even beds. Despite the humble construction, the cubes are amazingly strong. The zBoards are easy to put together and comes in pre-designed kits or buy individual boards to create your own new designs.

Way Basics has earned themselves a fan, and I’m more than happy to pass the word on to our  readers.

No Waste – All the zBoards are made from 99% post-consumer recycled paper. They have developed an amazing new process that makes recycled paper into lightweight yet sturdy boards and feel just like the kind of pressed-wood boards used to make most assembled furniture, yet they’re 62% lighter. When you’re done with the furniture, you can take it apart and recycle it again.

No Tools – You can put the unique zBoards together without tools. Super-strong industrial strength adhesive strips adhere the pieces together. Just peel, stick and you’re done.

No Rules – You can buy the thoughtfully designed step-by-step furniture kits. But
because they’re so easy to assemble and so versatile, you can also mix and match the basic building boards to fulfill your furniture fantasies. Custom-design anything from beds to desks to etageres, then paint, wallpaper, or embellish them any way you like as well. (Kids love to decorate their own Way Basics stuff.) That’s something you definitely don’t get with most assembly-required furniture.

And when you buy Way Basics furniture, you’re helping improve the world in other ways, too. They work with furniture banks around the country and provide furniture to people and families in need nationwide. Way Basics is also founding members of the Sustainable Furniture Council, a coalition united to promote environmentally healthy practices in the industry, and to help consumers identify good furniture choices.
