Alchemy Goods

Their mission is simple: “Turning useless into useful.”

Alchemy is the medieval science of turning lead into gold. More generally, it means magically turning something of lesser value into something of greater value. For them, the value isn’t economical so much as ecological. They look for materials that are normally discarded that might have value with a little bit of imagination and some hard work.

Arico Natural Foods

Born in Java in the South Pacific Asia, Angela was raised by parents who implanted in her the principles of fairness, integrity, frugality and industry.  Growing up in a third world country, she learned about education as a path toward a better life.  She learned about America – a place where people work to make dreams come true irrespective of race, gender, age, or ethnicity; a land where freedom is not only treasured, but is a God-given right for those willing to work hard.  Blessed by parents with a vision of a better future for their daughter, Angela, at age eighteen, parted from family and her familiar world, and set sail to the US to pursue higher education.  With limited funds from family and thanks to academic scholarships, Angela completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in Food Science from UC Davis and Cornell University.  While working full-time at Kellogg, she further obtained an MBA degree at University of Michigan.  Today Angela is CEO of Arico Foods, creating the healthy snacks of tomorrow.

Bravo Farms

Bravo Farms began in 1979 as a small dairy farm in Visalia, California. Owned by Bill Boersma, he ran the dairy several years before deciding to evolve into a farmstead cheesemaker. This was not an easy task, being the first farmstead cheesemaker in the San Joaquin Valley was a challenging endeavor. Yet over time, he developed a wonderful recipe for a farmhouse cheddar, which is known as one of the best in the world. Recently Bill partnered with a young artisan cheesemaker, Jonathan Van Ryn, who studied cheesemaking at California Polytechnic University. Jonathan was building a small cheese factory to make his own varieties of cheese, but after meeting with the Boersma’s, they came up with a plan to form a partnership in Bravo Farms. They could now make enough cheese to meet the demand. Bravo Farms now makes several varieties of cheese and continues to produce some of the best cheese worldwide.

Embrace Sweets

Embrace Sweets began in 2004 with only a thought, a passion for baking and several generations of proven recipes.  My daughter and I have worked hard to bring the dreams of my mother and grandmother to light and those dreams are flourishing.

Fed up with my current job and unfilled I searched for my true passion and purpose in life, little did I know that it was with me all the while.   After making an apple cobbler for  Brandi’s 21st birthday I suddenly found myself with orders from friends and neighbors to make them sweets.  I soon after, enrolled in the California School of Culinary Arts – Le Cordon Bleu program; and acquired more experience working with world renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck’s catering division. I had truly found my calling.

When Brandi and I opened Embrace Sweet, we found ourselves in the middle of the Adkins craze, we couldn’t give away a cookie let alone a brownie. However, we stayed the course determined to make this work. With that determination, we won numerous awards for our brownies.

Eucalan

Mary Ellen Edgar’s story is an inspiring one. Her venture into the world of alternative laundry products all started with a visit to a friend in Australia who gave her a Ministry of Agriculture home remedy for a no-rinse laundry product for wool.  Living in the country and accustomed to economizing with well water and a septic tank, Ms Edgar tested the formula herself and was amazed at the results; her best red and white Argyle wool sweater washed up beautifully and she saved time, water and energy because of the no-rinse benefit of the formula. Encouraged and enthusiastic, Ms. Edgar proceeded to go to the next level and produce the new product on commercial basis.

Evolve

ShowerStart™   wanted a way to save time, water and energy without having to make sacrifices or behavior changes. You see, we figured that many people were probably a lot like us in their morning routine – really busy running around to get out of the door on time. So to save a little time we typically turn on the shower and sneak away to do something else while waiting for the water to warm-up.

ShowerStart™ technology changes the equation because it watches the shower’s temperature and “triggers a trickle” as soon as the shower is warm enough to jump in.  This prevents your hot water from inadvertently running down the drain before you can hop in the shower. Not only have you eliminated the water and energy waste, but the sound of the trickle tells you that your shower’s ready.  The hot water for your shower is now warm and waiting instead of warm and wasted.

Fridays at the Farm

Friday at the Farm began when two friends, Jessica and Melanie, began making soap in 2002.  Initially they decided to get together every Friday out at one of their farms and teach themselves soap making the old fashioned way.  They spent many hours reading recipes, testing different scents and oils together and just spending some time together as friends.  The next year they moved their operation out of their kitchens and into a renovated room in their big red barn.  They then headed for their local Saturday market.  The market meant more to them than just a place to sell their products.  They have made friendships and learned a lot about a way of life that is more in line with their beliefs of buying locally, slowing down, and being a part of our great community.

Golden Path Alchemy

The study of Nature, Holistic Healing, Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine inspired the creation of Golden Path Alchemy. Golden Path is representative of the Tao, or universal way. Alchemy represents transformation, or the process of “finding the precious gold within yourself by transforming the lead that weights you down” (Jeffery Yuen). The five stages of alchemical transformation can be observed as we begin our journey of spiritual development. These phases of cultivation are reflected in Golden Path Alchemy’s five skin care lines.

The first stage, Awaken, is rising and entering the sacred place to begin the journey. The second stage, Purify, is cleansing, detoxification and releasing elements that no longer provide benefit. The third stage, Refine, is cultivation, meditation, growth and enhancement. The fourth stage, Renew, is rebirth, where new life is expressed and manifested.  The fifth stage, Illumination, is enlightenment and spiritual ascension allowing for greater union with the Tao.  The process of spiritual development is cyclical and ongoing. Each of Golden Path Alchemy’s skin care line, Awaken, Purify, Refine, Renew and Illuminate, is designed to support the holistic enlightenment of skin, body and spirit.

Grace & Ivy

Grace & Ivy is dedicated to creating paraben-free, cruelty-free, herbal beauty products that promote health, well being and an awareness of the natural world.

In early 2009 Ivette Newport began a quest. As a new mother, she desired a healthy, organic lifestyle for her family. She started investigating the food they were consuming and the products they were using on a daily basis. She was shocked at her findings.  Beauty products were the first to go once she realized how many petro-chemicals, parabens and other toxins they were laden with. Her goal was to begin crafting these bath, beauty and skin care products for her family, using organic, local ingredients. It began with many months of research, study and countless experiments to perfect her organic skin care formulas. The praise and support she received from her family and friends propelled her to the next stage of sharing and eventually selling these products.
Ivette continues to expand her knowledge and has a deep passion for this newly discovered endeavor.

Granola Gourmet

Founder Jeff Cohen has created a unique and much needed product that will appeal to everyone. Cohen, who has himself been a diabetic for fifteen years was frustrated while trying to find a snack that not only did not cause a spike in his blood sugar, but that also tasted good. He finally decided to create his own and Granola Gourmet was born.

Jeff used the Glycemic Index as his guide and was able to find ingredients that could make a tasty snack with a low Glycemic impact. His family experimented with the ingredients and finally created granola bars. They were able to eliminate sugar and replace it with raw blue agave and honey. Thus a tasty and healthy snack was produced.

Cohen’s family was making the bars and found that the kids were taking multiple bars to school to share with their friends who also enjoyed this new snack and a business developed. From there, Granola Gourmet got it’s true start providing Gourmet Granola Bars to the set of the ABC TV show ‘Pushing Daisies’ and in the following months the casts and crews of additional TV shows and movies tracked them down and are now enjoying these tasty treats! These ‘Bars of the Stars’ are healthy, delicious and handmade.

Fed up with the plastic bags they kept getting from their dry cleaners, they stopped using them. Instead, Jane wanted to “reuse”, so she grabbed an old garment bag and THREW HER DIRTY CLOTHES INSIDE IT AND TOTED IT TO THE DRY CLEANERS…But the garment bag was not quite right for her needs. So she put a drawstring on the bottom and a zipper in front and made the bag out of extra-sturdy, 100% cotton. Jokingly, as she started “reusing” the bag, she called herself a Reusenik, and the bag she created became a Clothesnik. The rest is Herstory…

Spud! currently has 7 locations throughout the west coast.  Each location hires and buys locally, delivers locally and re-invests our profits in local community organizations.

SPUN

In early 2007 Sara Seumae started on a journey. Her family had already been bitten by the ‘green’ bug and was quickly making changes in their diet and all other aspects of daily life. It only seemed logical to take that next step into organic clothing. But Sara was not ready to make any concessions when it came to her personal style. She also needed to figure out a way to find quality organic clothing that wouldn’t break her family budget. Sara threw herself into the idea, spending time exploring the organic clothing market beginning in her hometown of Seattle, Washington and expanding across the world. Much to her surprise, she could not believe that what she was looking for was not available. Surely she couldn’t be the only woman out there with this need. An idea was spun! Her father’s experience and his confidence in her success inspired the creation of Spun clothing.

Tropical Salvage

We salvage tropical hardwoods in Indonesia and use them to build quality, hand-made, solid wood furniture. The salvaged wood beautifully expresses its history. The effects of nails, seasoning cracks, bore holes, wild-growth grain figure and mineral accumulation are evident in many products. They are a wonderful testament to the wood’s historical richness and new eco-positive life. And it comes at an exceptional value; you may not find a better price on solid wood furniture, anywhere.

Vers Audio

Without a doubt, the creation of any mass-produced product requires the use of resources and energy to manufacture, transport and manage throughout their useful lives – which resources, how much energy and the length of a ‘useful life’ are where big differences can be made to reduce the total impact that a product makes on the world. Could you craft a more beautiful, better sounding system with LESS impact to the environment at the same time? We thought so, and it’s been the driving passion behind Vers from day one – to be better in every way imaginable.

Voltaic

Our founder was traveling through Spain and with a small solar charger. Not only did the charger not work very well, it was easy to forget to take it out of the bag to set it up. To work well, a solar charger would need to have much more solar power make charging efficient and a way to make charging devices effortless.  We made several prototypes around this idea before settling on something very similar to the current version of the bags.

Way Basics

Our products and our way of doing business come out of the principles we live by every day. We believe in taking things back to basics, and simplifying as much as we can. That’s why Way Basics furniture building blocks – we call them zBoards — are made from post-consumer recycled paper, one of the simplest, most ancient materials ever. Unlike other assembly-required products, our zBoards can be recycled with no waste when their use is over, so they make little to no environmental impact.

Our name depicts how we as a company are doing things in a different way, and our products are built for our customers lifestyles… their way.  Best of all, we keep everything simple and way basic.

No tools, No rules, No kidding!  When you open your Way Basics package, you won’t find a mysterious bag full of screws and directions written in seven different languages.  There is literally one page of instructions written in plain English.  Assembled with industrial strength 3M tape, assembly is literally as easy as peel, stick, done!

West Paw Design

We live where we work, and the pristine beauty that surrounds us in the Rocky Mountains gives us reason everyday to do our part to protect our environment. We do all we can to reduce waste, making sure to cut as much raw product as possible out of every bolt of fabric, then reusing the scrap material where we can. We rescue and reuse old boxes to store our finished products, and employ recycled material in our packaging. Finally, even some of our products themselves are recyclable! We believe in our responsibility to the next generation, whether four-legged or two!
