The green general store supports a new way of consuming called “Mindful Commerce.” The business is built on the belief that someone should only consume when they need something and that product should be the most mindful and sustainable one available. Seven Planet will only work with “mindful suppliers” who are building and creating the most green and sustainable products possible. In addition to selling house hold goods, clothes and accessories, Seven Planet rents and sells electric scooters and soon will rent bicycles. Seven Planet, which calls itself “the nation’s first chain of green general stores,” launched its flagship shop outside Sandpoint, Idaho, and its second at 412 N.W. Couch St. in Portland. The company encourages “mindful commerce” and sells merchandise, such as reusable sandwich bags and shawls made of bamboo fibers, that is “mindful of the process of conducting business and its impact on the planet.”

Portland-based Seven Planet, the world’s first “chain” of green general stores—thus far only an online presence in Portland, though there’s a store in Priest River, Idaho—is preparing to open a storefront in Old Town in mid-September. Retail Therapist doesn’t know if two stores a chain makes, but after a quick scouring of the website for any and all items that didn’t look too conspicuously good-for-you, rough on the skin, or like they’d biodegrade in under three minutes, RT is feeling optimistic….
